Evil Dead remake gets a male lead
Despite leading lady Lily Collins having dropped out over scheduling issues, the casting process for the Evil Dead reboot continues apace, with a new name having been added to the project. However, this is no replacement for Collins, but rather a new leading man…
Canadian actor Stephen Amell has been cast as the title character in the CW networks pilot for Arrow, which is based on DC Comics Green Arrow character. The series is being promoted as a modern take on the vigilante superhero who fights crime using archery, martial arts and technology.
David Nutter is directing the pilot, written/executive produced by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim. Amell appears on the CW series The Vampire Diaries in 2010, and had a guest role on 90210. Most recently Amell had a recurring role on HBO’s Hung, and was one of the finalists to replace Andy Whitfield as the lead on Spartacus: Vengeance.

The much anticipated adaption of Orson Scott Card’s classic novel Ender’s Game has reportedly found its lead in 14-year-old Asa Butterfield.
Butterfield is already an accomplished British actor thanks to roles in The Boy in The Striped Pajamas, Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, and Martin Scorsese’s about to be released 3D fantasy Hugo.
Ender’s Game won both the Hugo and Nebula Awards when it was released in 1985, and spawned a series of successful novels. The story begins after an alien attack on Earth. Gifted children are recruited by the government and are taught a competitive game to find the best and brightest. A young boy, Ender, emerges as a genius strategist and the planet’s best hope to destroy the alien Formic race.
Production is scheduled to begin next year for March 15th, 2013 release date. X-Men Origins: Wolverine’s Gavin Hood will direct.

Bob Hoskins joins Snow White And The Huntsman
Bob Hoskins, Eddie Izzard and Toby Jones have all signed up to play dwarfs in Snow White And The Huntsman.
Yesterday’s casting news had Ian McShane enlisted to play Caesar, the leader of a gang of dwarfs, which seems to have pushed along negotiations for the trio.
According to Heat Vision, Hoskins will play blind dwarf Constantine, Izzard burly dwarf Tiberius and Jones a timid dwarf called Claudius.

Luke Evans will play Bard The Bowman, heir to the kingdom of Dale and a skilled archer in the now-in-production Hobbit films. Bard would be the closest to an Aragorn type character in The Hobbit (Aragorn was not in that book), which will feature far more dwarves than humans and elves.
A casting after production has started isn’t a cause for alarm as it might be for other productions because the movies are reportedly being filmed in a linear fashion. Bard doesn’t appear during the early part of the book, so it might be several weeks before he is needed on set.
The handsome Welsh actor’s quickly growing career has included a number of genre roles, including the Greek gods Apollo (Clash of the Titans) and Zeus (Immortals). He will also star as Aramis in Constantin Film’s upcoming 3D version of Alexander Dumas’ book The Three Musketeers alongside Lord of the Rings alum Orlando Bloom.
