Thor Takes Number 1 at Box Office

Studio estimates put the North American 3 day opening of Thor at $66 million. That easily earned the film the win for the weekend, with the number 2 Fast Five dropping to $32.5 million.

Thor’s earnings were solidly in line with forecasts in the $60 million to $70 million range, and was a strong start for a non-sequel. Earnings from 3-D screenings accounted for approximately 60% of receipts. Thor has already earned $176 million in overseas markets.

Thor cost Walt Disney Co’s Marvel Studios $150 million and is one of the linchpins of its Avengers slate of movies that includes the already released Iron Man films and the Captain America movie coming out later this year.

Green Lantern second full trailer. This trailer presents a more serious “Space Opera” tone than the earlier clips and reveals more of the primary plot. Improvements in the CGI are also evident, although many are still unhappy about the look of the suit.

Joss Whedon announces the start of The Avengers shoot
You may have been stuffing your face with Easter Eggs on Sunday, but Joss Whedon was busy preparing The Avengers.
The director (notable for his snarky sense of humour) took to fansite ‘Whednonesque’ to update fans and, amongst other things, officially announce that filming on Marvel’s epic superhero team-up would start the following day.
He said: “Tomorrow [Monday 25th] we start shooting (I THINK I’m legally permitted to say that). Day one. That’s right. We’ll be shooting the pivotal death/betrayal/product placement/setting up the sequel/coming out scene, at the following address:
“[Marvel Lawyers rush in, take Joss’s keyboard, blowtorch a picture of his family like in “Stormy Monday”, drink his milkshake, leave the seat up, fluff his pillows, violently unfluff his pillows, leave]
“Went too far. My bad. Anyhoo, it should be a fun day, followed by the eighty thousand other fun days it will take to finish this.”
Whedon went on to add: “So wish me luck. DO IT! LUCK! NOW! I’m off to finish some Buffy pages, and then figure out what the movie is about already.
“I’m pretty sure it’s about the Justice League [Marvel Lawyers re-enter, unspeakability occurs] or possibly something else. I’ll get it. I’ve been looking forward to this. For about 46 years.”

Thor review
“You are no match for the mighty…” cries Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in the latest Marvel opus. The sentence goes unfinished thanks to a hypodermic needle plunged into the God of Thunder’s bottom, a pomposity-puncturing injection that sums up Kenneth Branagh’s approach to one of the more preposterous heroes in the comic book pantheon.Chances are that even the most ardent acolyte will be won over by a film that manages to poke genial fun at the helmet-wearing hammer-wielder, whether he’s lording it up on his planet or stranded on ours, while still adhering to the same bangs for bucks ratio as the Iron Man and X-Men cycles.

Wonder Woman Will Get Short Shorts

Fan’s that didn’t like the pants look for the new Wonder Woman can rest easy: She will get short shorts afterall.

NBC president Robert Greenblatt told TVLine :

“There was an initial outcry about the long pants – you know, skintight pants as opposed to those little shorts [worn by Lynda Carter in the original TV series]. But the shorts were always planned. They are actually used in the final confrontation when she beats Veronica Cale (played by Elizabeth Hurley).”
